A Catty Babble of Books

Going Under

Going Under - S. Walden This is a difficult book to rate.
It took me a bit of time to get into this story. I think that was mostly because this story in set in high school and because I wasn't really a fan of Brooklyn at the start of the story.
It's not really a feel good story, it deals with some dark subject matters - rape and suicide. Stay away from this book if you can't handle to read about either of them.

This book was - at times - hard to read. It's not pretty, it's not fluffy and sweet. What I did like about it is the way S Walden was just honest and real about it, that something horrible happened - which I really did not expect to happen - total shocker!, Brooklyn's father, Gretchen and Ryan. Ryan is a sweet and great guy. Though he did seem a bit too old for his age.

Why not 5 stars? It took me a while to get into the story and I felt that the last part - after all the shock and events happened - was a bit rushed. I felt like this difficult story deserved a longer ending and I felt that we as readers of this hard story needed more information than we got.

Thought-provoking, beautiful and at times horrific book. Read at your own risk. If you don't mind the subject of the book, give it a try. It's a dark and beautiful story.

Broken Prince: A Novel (The Royals)

Broken Prince: A Novel (The Royals) - Erin Watt 4.25 stars

Omg, that ending!

I enjoyed reading this book. It wasn't perfect - I got a little bored during the first half of the book. But it picked up after that.
This book is like your favorite poison. It's toxic, it's deadly, it's lethal but it's so so so so good. It's a massive guilty pleasure.

I do think Erin Watt belongs in author-jail, because her cliffhangers are seriously criminal. It should be illegal to end a book like that. And now we have to wait till October! So cruel.

Bossman

Bossman - Vi Keeland, Jessica Royer Ocken 4.5 stars

As far as sexy bossy CEO's go.. Chase is seriously awsome. I'm not really a fan of the typical boss story, but this felt a bit different and it was funny at times. The build up between them is off the charts.

Sweet Little Lies

Sweet Little Lies - Jill Shalvis 3-3.25 stars

I think it's save to say that Jill Shalvis is a master at creating fun little places with a wide variety of characters. This book is no different. It's not badly written and the characters are fun. Though I did have some trouble keeping some of them apart in the beginning (I'm bad with names).
It's a nice read, with some romance and a little steam. I really liked Finn and I mostly liked Pru. It's just that not a whole lot happened here. I feel like I've read too many pages about two people getting together.... and that's it. The 'secret' that lies between them is one I've seen several times before and I wasn't a fan of it then and it's not working for me now.
Pru was also a bit too much of a martyr and saint for my taste.

I think this is mostly an 'it's not you, it's me'-situation. So by all means go read the book for yourself.

Pucked Up

Pucked Up - Helena Hunting I liked this one better than I thought I would. Going with Buck's POV was a smart decision. Sunny's allright, but I'm not sure I would've liked being in her head.

Enjoyable :)

Moonshot

Moonshot - Alessandra Torre 3-3.5 stars

I've had some trouble rating this one.
The writing is good and even though it took me a while to get into it, I really loved the first half of the book. I liked Ty and I liked Chase, even though he does some questionable things. I liked them together en it was fun to read about.
However, the second part was a bit of a let down. I won't give away what happens, so this probably sounds really vague. But I enjoyed it when they meet up and I guess the information at the end of the book makes it more easy to swallow, but I just didn't like how the rest of their relationship developed. It left me with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth and it kind of ruined their magic.
Also, as a fan of romantic suspense books, this book was very very very low on the suspense. You forget the suspense is there until pretty much the end.

I enjoyed it, the characters were well written and their connection was enjoyable. It's an interesting story in a different setting than I'm used to. I wasn't a fan of the second part, but by all means give it a go yourself. Different strokes for different people and it's certainly not a badly written book.

Into the Deep

Into the Deep - Samantha Young I liked this one. It was a nice read and I enjoyed it. I'd like to know how their story continues, but the next book sounds awful, so I think I'll leave them with this book.

White-Hot Hack

White-Hot Hack - Tracey Garvis-Graves 3.5/5 stars

It took a while before the story started to get interesting, about 30%. But after that it was enjoyable and a decent ending. I did like the first book better than this one, as this book is more filled with hack-lingo. Tracey Garvis-Graves sure did her research on this one.
Give it a chance if you liked book 1 :)

Idol

Idol - Kristen Callihan Most rockstar books are just more of the same and feature guys who make bad decision after bad decision and women who put up with it and a lot of back and forth moments.
This book wasn't really like the rest of these books and it was enjoyable. I liked Libby and Killian. It was a nice story with good secondary characters and hot romance. I'm looking forward to Scotts book next.

Back to You

Back to You - Priscilla Glenn 4/5 stars.

I liked it, but I didn't love it. I usually don't enjoy the switching between different times, but I enjoyed both equally here and it was easy to follow. I didn't really think it was an emotional book, even though a lot of reviews are saying it is. I liked both characters and I liked the little girl. I though his reason for leaving in the past was a bit lame and predictable and the ending felt a bit rushed.

Smut

Smut - Karina Halle 3.25/5 stars

Maybe it's that I know Karina Halle can do better and more original. Maybe it's me.. I don't know. I'm having a hard time loving any book lately. They all seem to blend in to one and the same story, over and over again.
I liked the first 50% of the book the most. It was funny and it had a story and they didn't fall all over each other right away. By the time they did though,... I don't know, there wasn't much of a story beyond sex. It was sexy at first, but I grew a bit tired of it and the story.

Grin and Beard It

Grin and Beard It - Penny Reid 3.75/5 stars

I like the family and the characters. The storyline was cute and fun to read, but it wasn't as original as I was hoping with the second book in this series. But it's a solid read with funny moments and some steamy romance.

Naked in Death

Naked in Death - J.D. Robb 3.5/5 stars

Didn't really live up to my expectations. I think the writing style isn't a 100% my thing. Not a bad book, interesting plot. Wasn't really feeling their connection. I will probably try the next book, but maybe not right away.

The Darkest Hour

The Darkest Hour - Maya Banks did not finish at about 53%.
I just wasn't feeling it right now and didn't feel like pushing on. I read to relax, not to work.

Point of No Return

Point of No Return - Tiffany Snow I loved this series and the stories and I'm glad Kathleen ended up with who I'd pick. However, this wasn't the best book in the series and the first part was awful. I hated the back and forth between Kade and Blane. This series was too good to be dragged down by such a storyline.
But... great series! must read if you love romance and suspense.
